In times of struggle, getting back to a better state may not be possible quickly in the moment. Yet, there can be a few routes to getting back to an improved state.

 

As I am writing, this I am watching one of the Harry Potter movies. In order to fight off the monstrous dementors, a Patronus Charm can be used to full effect by thinking of your happiest memory with saying the proper words. A similar process can be done in life when the mind is consumed with racing negative thoughts. Keep an extremely happy thought readily in mind to go to while having self-talk grounding you back to where you want to be.

 

Another option is not to have only one option of a happy relaxing memory but a couple. Sometimes having a couple memories as bookmarks in your mind can work as smaller memories combining to the power of one grand memory. Granted, each situation may need different remedies. Therefore, self-awareness is a key tool in finding what mental tools can be added to your mental toolkit to help you best personally.

 

My challenge to you this week is to reflect in whatever form works best for you for what can be your version of light in the darkness.
