The Reruns
Today’s post is continuing a theme about reflecting on life from some of the previous posts. I first got the idea for this writing a couple of years ago when someone could not think of the word memories using the word “reruns” instead. That mistaken word clung to my mind. I never really thought of memories like watching an old episode of a television show, but I became fascinated with the concept. I wrote part of this a little after that moment. Then, a few weeks ago I watched the Black Mirror episode where the characters can watch their memories as if they were a movie on a television which reminded me about the concept again. We are all characters in stories of our own and other people’s lives. Watching the older memories from the past can be a good time for reflection as long as we do not obsess over it. We still have the episodes from the current season to play in real time. After reading the following writing, make sure to press play and return to living the present part of your life. You never know what the next episode has in store.
The Reruns
Life has been hectic.
I closed my eyes on a cliffhanger.
Now I sit here waiting for
The premiere of the next season.
In limbo I pass the time
Staring at the tv in the waiting room
Showing the rerun episodes of my life.
I’m going to watch the reruns
Of the days of my life.
I’m revisiting the best of the best,
The days I had fun,
And the days that I had none.
Rewind the tape of my life back
All the way to each memory of old.
I do not know what will come next.
The next is filled with mystery
So it only makes sense to make history.
In the meanwhile,
I will spend my time focusing
On binging the episodes of my life
To remember how I got here.
Theories of the future start emerging
Gets my thoughts surging.
Some theories appear sound
Filled with reason.
Still, I am never ready
When the next plot twist arrives.
I hope this show never ends.
