Midwest Goodbye

Midwest Goodbye

When reading this week’s writing, think of a time before a pandemic. A time when no matter who you met up with the endings of the meeting seeming fairly similar during the time of physically departing. No matter how you meet and catch up with people, you may catch yourself ending the interaction with a Midwest version of goodbye. When was your last Midwest goodbye? Read, reflect, and connect.

Midwest Goodbye

Our gathering is over.

It is time to go.

Let’s slowly make our way to the door.

The conversation lingers on some more.

One of us remembers something we forgot to mention earlier.

What are you plans for next week?

We figure out the next time we will meet up.

An event that happened since we last saw each other.

You remembered a project you are working on but wanted to work up to talking about it.

Let’s get a goodbye hug out of the way.

You start to put one finger on the doorknob.

The last thought shared brought made me think of this funny video I saw earlier today.

From this we end up going down a video rabbit hole.

Then, you put your entire hand on the doorknob.

Oh, wait what episode of that superhero show are you on?

Okay, I will not spoil anything.

At the same time we should have a quick fan discussion about the show at large.

We have made our way to your car now.

An event that happened since we last saw each other.

You remembered a project you are working on but wanted to work up to talking about it.

You open the car door as we continue to chat.

Wait, let me double check about something you brought up earlier.

We hugged earlier, let’s do it one more time.

This time we mean it about departing each other.

I mean it has been now two hours from when we were originally leaving each other.

Could we have messaged or called each other later with what extended the time?

You betcha.

However, then that would not be a Midwest goodbye.
