Shadow

Try all that you can.

Yet, you cannot escape your shadow.

Even Peter Pan did not escape his,

But instead hunted his shadow down.

We walk away and are followed by it.

Similarly, our past does not simply stay in the past.

It hangs with us as a shadow does.

The shadow of our past not showing the entire picture,

When held up to the light of who we are now.

As if a Clint Eastwood classic,

We are the accumulation of the good, the bad, and the ugly parts of our experiences.

The light, the dark, and the reality.

What can one do, but embrace the shadow while moving forward.
